چکیده

The goal of this paper is to bring together the worlds of design and active databases. Design databases have to provide a powerful data model for complex structured design data as well as a powerful activity model asserting basic data consistency and supporting workflow (in the design area we should better call it designflow) and cooperation among designers. There are numerous potential application areas for ECA rules within design demanding to incorporate active capabilities into design databases. We argue that ECA rules are well suited for error correction purposes providing a forward oriented handling of failure situations, even for repairing inconsistencies which were caused by cooperative data access. We will further argue that ECA rules do not suite for pre-planning, specifying, or implementing designflows. Beside these two areas, there are several application fields in design which can be supported by ECA rules, but the requirements of which could also be fulfilled by alternative mechanisms.

The fuzzy logic based ECA rule processing for XML databases

Current needs of E-Commerce transactions require the development of XML database system like relational database systems. Fuzzy concepts are adapted to the field of XML Databases (DB) in order to deal with ambiguous and uncertain data. Incorporating fuzziness into Event Condition Action (ECA) rules would improve the effectiveness of XML DB as it provides much flexibility in defining rules for t...

Fuzzy colored time Petri net and termination analysis for fuzzy Event-Condition-Action rules

Knowledge systems are characterized by being active, uncertain and adaptive in pervasive computing environments, and Fuzzy Event-Condition-Action (ECA) rules can effectively describe these features of knowledge systems. To analyze the static structure and dynamic behavior of fuzzy ECA rules, a fuzzy colored time Petri net model (FCTPN) is proposed. The FCTPN is able to model the fuzzy ECA rules...

Event Condition Action Rules on RDF Metadata in P P Environments

RDF is one of the technologies proposed to realise the vision of the Semantic Web and it is being increasingly used in distributed web based applications The use of RDF in applications that require timely noti cation of metadata changes raises the need for mechanisms for monitoring and processing such changes Event Condition Action ECA rules are a natural candidate to ful ll this need In this p...

Performance Modelling and Evaluation of Event-Condition-Action Rules on RDF in P2P networks

This paper studies the performance and scalability aspects of processing Event-ConditionAction (ECA) rules on RDF metadata in peer-to-peer (P2P) environments. This work has been motivated by the increasing use of RDF in distributed web-based applications that require timely notification and propagation of metadata changes between peers, for which ECA rules are a possible candidate technology. W...

ECA-LP / ECA-RuleML: A Homogeneous Event-Condition-Action Logic Programming Language

Event-driven reactive functionalities are an urgent need in nowadays distributed service-oriented applications and (Semantic) Web-based environments. An important problem to be addressed is how to correctly and efficiently capture and process the event-based behavioral, reactive logic represented as ECA rules in combination with other conditional decision logic which is represented as derivatio...
